The Belgian international, who was 23 years old at the time, had a fantastic 2022-23 season at Stade Bollaert-Delelis, which helped Les Sang et Or advance to the Champions League for the first time in two decades after finishing second in Ligue 1.
Following the departure of French star Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino and the loss of key midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai to Liverpool under Jürgen Klopp, the signing will occur at Leipzig.
Openda's affirmed appearance takes the club's complete summer spending to date to ~€108m, which would comprise another club record marker.
The forward, who was born in Liège and played a lot for Belgium's U21 team before making the full senior team in 2022, has climbed the continental footballing ladder well over the past five years. He started playing for the senior team at Brugge, had a successful loan stint with Vitesse Arnhem in the Dutch Eredivisie, moved to Lens, and then really exploded in the top division of French football in a memorable way.
